El-Watan newspapers has reported on this very Wednesday; the message of the Algerian revolution icon, Jamila Bouhired, calling for the Algerian youth to keep the popular marches fully enthusiastic and peaceful against the sense of thievery, this is the speech she shared the Algerian community with:
Dear Fellows and Grandchildren.
I wish to inform you how glad I am being here with you, and being able to retrieve my position as a citizen in this struggle for dignity in this well-trodden brotherhood.
And I also wish to express my gratitude for allowing to relive this beaming Algerian revolution that some let go of real fast, I wish to express my happiness and pride watching handling the torch of freedom from your very ancestors, they are the ones who set Algeria free from the colonizer; and you’re the ones returning both freedom and dignity to the Algerians since the act of independence.
As we were mourning for those beloved and cherished; gliding in between victory and sense of respect, those on the outer side of the country made a war against the revolutionists, only to take over and undertake a historic legitimacy forcefully, and that is how a contrasting alliance made by an unknown group of leagues alongside the army borders who were set by the French military officers, and having found supported by the March 19th fighters seriously eased the hold of the country as a hostage.
In the name of the usurped historic legitimacy, the colonizers tracked down the survivors of the liberal struggle; hunted them and even exiled some of them, eventually ending up assassinating our heroes who defiantly rebelled against colonialism with the mildest tools ever, yet armed specifically with bravery and determination that worked its way to make this blast of freedom come true.
After over half a century of the well established system by the French colonizers since 1962, their system remains to get along and stays through deception and oppression of the Algerians’ valuable fortunes and principles, and thus only to prolong the French extension of the colonial tutelage with the time being, and acquiring as well the protection of its leaders.
Now those who in the name of patriotism demanded France’s “repentance” and the contrite reaction needed for us, those whose masks hit the ground and found no resort to cover their shame, those retired leaders or still in active stance with the government, those senior officials, those senior military officers and part leaders as well do return or think of heading back to France; their destination of the alternative back-up where most of their disdainful actions were deposited there. As for the last sign for the this deleterious connections; it would be the total support of the French president to the contrivance that is the coup; working solely as an assault to the Algerian status; and keeping them from overseeing the horizons of their own perception of the future.
By all means standardized of democracy and every universal regulation do they dare to retrieve an old persecution regime; that died away from being lawful, with a sense of domination channeled through the entire hierarchy of colonialism, whereas in return staunchly refused by the Algerian’s will and power?
The Algerian people has never been fulfilling their goals throughout the entire odyssey of bringing independence to life, where the fight against the colonial system took a vow to appreciate the hectic solidarity of the French people and its progressive vanguard as well.
Dear Fellows and Grandchildren.
Come this historical reminiscence, I wish to point at your actions of struggle and fight over the current connivances and offenses that deter you all at once, are officially outdated now that it is being related to the historical timeline that ended in 1962, and that by now you are taking the torch that will flame the light needed for the country’s total freedom, as I am quite convinced that your ancestors who gave it all when they were as young as you now; have finally found the righteous harmony and phlegm in their souls.
By your peaceful commitment of disarming the repression, and your civilized manners that stunned the world, and by this solidarity of brotherhood that moved our hearts and its buoyant virility whenever the country is found to be in jeopardy, hope by then is reborn; allowing for dream to be renovated, and us to believe once again in the sacrifice that our martyrs looked for enthusiastically by blood and sweat. A free and blooming Algeria off the realm of the oppressive persecution, a happy Algeria where its children share right, duties and opportunities equally, no sense of discrimination is ever found.
After weeks of peaceful and typical struggle both in history and the world, too; your motion is now amidst intersections, and might as well sink if unattended yet thanks to your awareness, those manipulative hands in disguise of fighters, as for those persuaded for devastation may succeed in rendering our fight into a dead end, sparing time for opportunists and keeping the situation steady, in other words; that is how indoctrinated workers and rebellious are made in shadows; waiting for the moment to get their claws into us, and against our very own will, they will keep pushing till we surrender, but we won’t.
Dear Fellows and Grandchildren.
In a few weeks later, you have exposed to the world of the Algerian beauty and power, and though silenced for years now due to the sheer oppression, it is all up to you know, for a decent sense of accumulation in universities, in companies to impose and get a hold of your union rights, in courts to eliminate arbitrariness, in hospitals to demand for an excellent health care. It is up to you journalists, to dig for the truth and expose lies and manipulations, as some of you know that one would pay their life for it all. It is up to you artists, those who shed the light upon
Our gloomy lives. It is up to you, those who defy degradation by imposing moralities. It is up to you all to draw your future and shape your dreams; it is up to you, you’re the ones who fight everyday for appointing your representatives through the simple act of democratic means and mere transparency.
Our generation have been had, we failed in keeping the rhythm of fight against the opportunist, rapist, and the fighters at the hour of twenty five, those who took the country as a hostage in 1962, those are still clinging to their substandard systems despite of the people’s wrath, those are still performing what they do best shamelessly and illegitimately too.
Do not let agents in disguise of the revolution to reign your liberal movements.
Do not let them ruin your noble fights.
Don’t let them steal your triumph.
